Now a day’s social media is one of the hottest buzzword on the web. What better than talking about the importance of thought sharing while using social media. As described on our very own Wikipedia “Social Media are primarily Internet- and mobile-based tools for sharing and discussing information among human beings. The term most often refers to activities that integrate technology, telecommunications and social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio.

What really is social media:

Experts have a lot of say, but for a common man like me would say it’s very similar to good old idea of people from different backgrounds coming together to discuss similar interests. Doing the same thing over the web is social media.

In the business networking context, thought sharing over social media is very similar to offline conferences organized for a specific target market. At the conference, people would meet unknown people, strike a conversation, exchange business cards and later on plan to capitalize on the contacts made during the conference for either business deal, or knowledge sharing sessions, or mentoring purpose and many more reasons.

The Human psyche hasn’t changed. Only, the means have evolved. These networking events now happen on the web. “Social media” works in the same manner. People choose to go to specific websites/forums/blogs/networking sites as they would go to conferences, Browse through user profiles, strike up conversations with other users and at the end of the day exchange contact details. And later on capitalize and the story continues.

Why Thought Sharing is important:

The social media addicts ;-) can probably vouch for the following information, but for people who are considering getting into the whole social media thing the following information is very critical.

The key to success is Thought Sharing. There are heaps of options available online, for people to interact, just like “GigaThoughts” but, the success formula lies in sharing your thoughts with the community. It’s very important to speak your mind and express your opinions without apprehensions. The key is not to stop, by just becoming registered member of 100′s social media sites, getting your RSS reader to read all the feeds and hoping for things to happen. The key is to initiate conversations by sharing your expertise or just your opinion over a certain topic.

The mantra is to dive and learn to swim rather than waiting at the shore thinking about all if’s and but’s. So don’t just sit there thinking what to write? How to write? Will your opinion count etc, just start sharing your thoughts and rest will follow.
